For several weeks, Professor Seleznev and the crew of the Pegasus spacecraft - the brave, courageous captain Poloskov and the gloomy red-bearded pessimist, mechanic Zelyony - were preparing for the expedition. On the day of her arrival, the rivers and seas were teeming with fish, the next day the fish disappeared, but many birds appeared, then the birds were replaced by animals. Finally, Alice guessed that the Empty Planet is inhabited by one species of animals, whose representatives can turn into anyone.

The Pegasus did not immediately get into the Medusa system. Poloskov received a distress signal from Shelezyak's planet. Once Shelezyaka was an ordinary planet with water, atmosphere, animals and plants, but then it was inhabited by robots from a crashed starship. The robots used up all the water and minerals, the atmosphere disappeared, and animals and plants died out. Now the robots were struck by an epidemic - they could not move.

The captains parted, but soon the Second received a message from the Third: he was returning from a neighboring galaxy with the absolute fuel formula - galactia - which the locals had given him. The pirates intercepted the message and lured both captains into a trap. The pirates cut the ship of the Third, and it ended up in their paws. Screen adaptation

Based on the story, Roman Kachanov shot the cartoon "The Secret of the Third Planet". In it, the plot and the number of characters were reduced: Captain Poloskov disappeared, the number of Great Captains was reduced to two, and they received the names Buran and Kim (only the name of the First Captain, Vsevolod, is named in the story). The Rat Pirate has been renamed "Gloth of Katruk". Ordinary human pirates have been replaced by robots. Several episodes that do not affect the main plot are missing from the film. Removed the fact that the Third Captain was tortured by pirates to find out the secret.
