The main population (about 40 thousand people) is coming out of former USSR, mostly Jews, so the area is often called a "little Odessa". Central Street - Brighton Beach Avenue; It contains many shops and restaurants (for example, "Primorsky", "Caucasus", "National") with signs in Russian, Ukrainian, Armenian, Georgian languages. Nearby is the famous bookstore "Black Sea", the editorial office of the newspaper "New Russian Word". The declining area bloomed during the immigration of Jews from the USSR in the United States at the beginning of the 70s.
