Table 1

Average USE score 2017 in literature

The total number of participants in the 2017 Unified State Examination in literature was 41,267 people, which is slightly lower than the number of those examined in 2016 (43,585 people), but higher than in 2015 (37,512 people). These data indicate a certain stability in the choice of the Unified State Exam in Literature by graduates entering universities of the corresponding profile.

The largest number of participants is noted in the following constituent entities of the Russian Federation: Moscow (5392 people), St. Petersburg (2556 people), Moscow region (2679 people), Krasnodar region (1368 people), Rostov region (1090 people), Sverdlovsk region(1035 people), Nizhny Novgorod region (931 people).

The average test score in 2017 was 59.68, slightly higher than 2016 (57.91) and 2015 (57.12).

The most numerous are the groups of examinees who received 41–60 and 61–80 points. (41% and 40% of participants respectively). The group of high scorers makes up more than 8.6% of total number participants. Compared to 2016, in 2017 the proportion of examinees with results in the low score range (0–40 points) decreased. There was a tendency towards an increase in the proportion of well-prepared participants with results of 61–80 t.b. (an increase of 2%), which is explained, in particular, by the tendency to improve the quality of teaching in the subject “Literature” in connection with the introduction of the final essay.

The minimum Unified State Exam score in 2017 was 8 points. (32 t.b.), as in 2016. The share of graduates who did not score the minimum number of points in 2017 is 2.9%, which is 1.4% less than in 2016 (4.3 %) and 2.4% less than in 2015 (5.3%). This result also indicates an improvement in the quality of graduates’ preparation for the literature exam.

In 2017, 343 people received 100 points for the Unified State Exam in Literature. (0.83%), which in absolute terms is more than in 2016 (256 people). The dynamics in the number of 100-point students is associated with an increase in the quality of training of graduates who are motivated to successfully pass the literature exam.

Analysis Unified State Exam results 2017 confirms the preservation of the measurement properties of the examination model and allows us to state that the degree of complexity of the KIM tasks is generally adequate to the cognitive capabilities of the examinees and makes it possible to differentiate them for admission to universities with different requirements for the level of preparation in literature.

Every graduate who wants to become a student at one of the Russian universities in 2018 faces a difficult task - to successfully pass the Unified State Exam, as well as to choose the right educational institution and faculty for submitting documents. Most 11th graders and their parents are faced with the final exam grading system for the first time and often find it difficult to find answers to the questions that arise. Therefore, we decided to shed light on important points.

In 2017-2018, the main rules passing the Unified State Exam will not be significantly changed. This means that the 100-point assessment system for final tests will still be relevant for graduates.

How is everything going?

During the verification of examination papers, for each correctly completed task, the graduate is given so-called “primary points”, which upon completion of the verification of the work are summed up and converted into a “test score”, which is indicated in the Unified State Examination certificate.

Important! Since 2009, the scale for converting primary and test scores of the Unified State Exam into the traditional five-point grades for schools has not been officially used, because in 2017 and 2018 the final exams are not included in the certificate.

Work verification is performed in two ways:

  • automatically (using special programs and technical means);
  • manually (the correctness of detailed answers is checked by two independent experts).

It is quite difficult to challenge the result of an automatic check. If the basic rules were not followed when filling out the answer table, the computer may not protect the result, and only the graduate himself will be to blame for this, for not following a number of mandatory rules.

If controversial issues arise during the expert review, a third specialist is involved, whose opinion will be decisive.

When can I expect results?

The following time frames apply by law:

  • data processing (for compulsory subjects) in the RCIO should not last longer than 6 calendar days;
  • RCIO is given 4 days to process data (elective subjects);
  • verification at the Federal Testing Center should take no more than 5 working days;
  • approval of results by the State Examination Commission - 1 more day;
  • up to 3 days for distribution of results to Unified State Exam participants.

In practice, from the moment of passing the exam to receiving the official result, it can take from 8 to 14 days.

Converting Unified State Examination points into grades

Despite the fact that in 2018 the scale for converting points in Unified State Examination subjects into a five-point grade is not officially used, many still want to interpret their results in a more familiar “school” system. To do this, you can use special tables or online calculators.

Table for converting OGE test scores into grades

Russian language

Mathematics

Computer science

Social science

Foreign languages

Biology

Geography

Literature

The second method is a little simpler and more convenient than searching required values in the cells of a huge table. You just need to choose a subject (mathematics, Russian language, chemistry, physics, history, English language, social studies... and other subjects), enter data and get the desired result in a matter of seconds.

We invite you to try how simple and convenient it is to use online calculators for the Unified State Exam score and its conversion into a 5-point score in practice.

Internet systems for applicants

The 2017-2018 academic year is completed, the exam has been passed, the results are known and even an interactive transfer scale primary points showed that the Unified State Examination result was in a fairly good range... But is this enough to enter the desired university?

Assess the real chances of admission based on test scores and the minimum passing threshold set by the university.

Important! The minimum passing score is determined by the university itself. It will directly depend on the scores of applicants who apply in 2018. The more popular the specialty, the higher the passing score.

Often at TOP faculties, even 100-point results are not enough for admission to the budget. Only Olympiad winners who provide significant additional points have a chance to see their name on the list of applicants for such majors.

In 2018, the most popular services for selecting a university and monitoring the entrance score threshold for various specialties will be:

  1. Ucheba.ru
  2. Apply online
  3. Higher School of Economics calculator
  4. Postyplenie.ru
  5. Typical applicant

These services are very easy to find. Just enter their name into any search engine.

In 2019 year of the Unified State Exam 67,500 graduates chose literature. This exam is considered one of the most difficult.

The minimum Unified State Exam score in literature for admission to a university in 2019 is 32 points.

How to file an appeal about disagreement with Unified State Exam scores

Firstly, you should know that you must file an appeal within 2 days of the official announcement of the results. Due to the fact that the date of the official announcement of results is never known in advance (only approximate dates are written on official websites), you must carefully monitor when in your personal account results from the literature will appear. Secondly, keep in mind that Saturday can also be considered a working day, so it is important not to miss the deadline for filing an appeal.

Where can I file an appeal?

Graduates of 11th grade file an appeal at the supporting school. You need to start this “crusade” from your home school. It is at your school that you must inform that you intend to protest the points received for the Unified State Exam in literature. They must tell you where and how this can be done. It is imperative to download all materials for the exam in your personal account and show them to the teacher before the appeal in order to understand how to behave during a dialogue with members of the Conflict Commission.

How to properly prepare for an appeal

Step 1. Download all Unified State Exam materials on literature from your personal account.

Step 2. Carefully check the sheet of answers to test questions, which was filled out in your own hand, with the so-called “reading sheet”. What should I check here? You need to make sure that your answers are correctly interpreted by the computer throughout, that is, all letters and numbers must match. Sometimes there are “computer” errors that deprive graduates of legitimate points, so such a technical glitch must be challenged on appeal.

Step 3. Carefully review Part II with an experienced teacher and check the work against the marks earned for this part of the work. The problem is that not a single USE participant sees either the tasks themselves or the correct answers to them. Part II in your personal account can only be downloaded in an unverified version. Where the experts found your mistakes and why they reduced your points - one can only guess. That is why it is very difficult to figure it out without an experienced mentor. By the way, during the appeal you may have your points reduced if an undetected error is discovered. It is at this stage (after careful verification and analysis) that it is possible to develop a detailed line of conduct for an appeal to the Conflict Commission. We advise you to even write down a plan of your claims with all the arguments in your favor.

Step 4. Be sure to go to the appeal with a teacher or tutor. If you manage to come to an agreement with your school teacher, that will be great. If it doesn’t work out, you can always resort to paid help from professionals. If you studied with a tutor, it is better to take him with you too.

We are ready to provide anyone with support for appealing Unified State Exam scores in many cities of Russia, since we have the largest network of branches in the country. To do this, you need to go to the main website, find your locality in the top location search bar and contact our employees by phone numbers listed on regional websites.

Attention! To accompany a Unified State Examination participant on an appeal, it is necessary to issue a notarized power of attorney for the teacher.

2 days to prepare for an appeal is, of course, a very short period of time, but it is quite enough if a qualified and experienced teacher helps you. Think for yourself how much money, effort and time was spent on preparing for the Unified State Exam; paying for one trip with you to the appeal of a teacher or tutor will seem like a drop in the bucket, because at stake are several primary Unified State Exam points, which, when converted into test scores, can turn out to be quite impressive result. There is no need to remind you that in the competition for budget places, every point is literally “worth its weight in gold.”

Which university can I enroll in with Unified State Exam scores in literature?

In 2019, about 370 different programs in more than 140 universities in the country were opened for graduates who successfully passed the Unified State Exam in Literature. To select a university and faculty, we recommend using Unified State Exam calculators. Read about this in our material.

Compared to 2017, in 2018 the proportion of examinees with results in the range of low (21–40) and average (41–60) scores decreased. The trend towards an increase in the proportion of well-prepared participants with results of 61–80 t.b. continues. (an increase of 3%), which is, in particular, due to the tendency to improve the quality of teaching the subject “Literature” in the context of the introduction of the final essay.

Students to take exams at the end of school. Now only about 5% of graduates pass it. This happens because literature is needed for admission to not the most popular specialties: philologist, linguist and teacher of Russian and literature.

Before the introduction of the Unified State Exam, literature was required to be taken at the end of school in the form of an essay, and the grade was given in two subjects at once: literature - for the quality of the text and disclosure of the main idea, one’s opinion and knowledge of the opinions of critics, and in the Russian language - for the absence of errors.

Read the general information about the exam and start preparing. Compared to last year, the version of the KIM Unified State Exam 2019 has changed. Now in task 17 you have to choose one essay topic out of four (previously out of three). The maximum primary score for the entire test was greatly increased - from 42 to 57. The remaining changes are not very serious, you can familiarize yourself with them.

Unified State Examination

Last year, to pass the Unified State Exam in Literature with at least a C, it was enough to score 32 primary points. They were given, for example, for correctly completed tasks No. 1-7, 10 and 11.

It is not yet known exactly what will happen in 2019: we need to wait for the official order from Rosobrnadzor on the correspondence of primary and test scores. Most likely it will appear in December. Considering that the maximum primary score has increased significantly, it is very likely that the minimum score may also change. Let's focus on these tables for now:

Structure of the Unified State Exam test

In 2019, the Unified State Examination test in literature consists of two parts, including 17 tasks.

  • Part 1: Consists of two sets of tasks. The first refers to a fragment of an epic, or lyro-epic, or dramatic work: it includes seven tasks (1–7) with a short answer and two tasks (8, 9) with a detailed answer in the amount of 5–10 sentences. The second relates to the analysis of a lyrical work: it includes five tasks (10–14) with a short answer and two tasks (15, 16) with a detailed answer of 5–10 sentences.
  • Part 2: 4 essay topics (17.1–17.4), from which you need to choose ONE and write a text of 200 words or more.

Preparation for the Unified State Exam

  • Take the Unified State Exam tests online for free without registration or SMS. The tests presented are identical in complexity and structure to the actual exams conducted in the corresponding years.
  • Download demo versions of the Unified State Examination in literature, which will allow you to better prepare for the exam and pass it easier. All proposed tests have been developed and approved for preparation for the Unified State Exam by the Federal Institute of Pedagogical Measurements (FIPI). In the same FIPI all official Unified State Exam options.
    The tasks that you will see most likely will not appear on the exam, but there will be tasks similar to the demo ones, on the same topic or simply with different numbers.
